The Brighton Centre - what a brilliant venue
Recently, the Brighton Centre has come in for some rather unfair criticism. Living practically next door to this multi purpose venue, I have visited on numerous occasions to see concerts, ice shows, watch Brighton Bear’s basketball games, visit exhibitions and conferences. The Brighton Centre is the one and only flexible venue in the city that is capable of hosting a whole range of events.
Built in the seventies, the Brighton Centre has stood the test of time. If any proof were needed of its endearing popularity just take a look at the listings for artists that will be performing here this year. Westlife, Daniel Bedingfield, Chris De Burgh, Deep Purple (which I will be going to!).
As a rock fan myself the Brighton Centre I would say is the only suitable venue locally that could cater for this type of music. All of the gigs I have been to have been breath- taking. One of the criticisms has been the quality of the acoustics. Perhaps not the studio quality I am used to in the studios of Pete Waterman, but far superior to similar venues such as Earls Court or Wembley. And maybe not as intimate as the Dome was / is, but still very good when playing to a full house. And of course the parking could be better – but that is a Council issue, not a Centre criticism (and don’t start me on the parking problems around that area!).
