Gordon
Brown has delivered his eighth budget. As
always the devil is in the detail. Brighton
and Hove Conservative Parliamentary Candidates, Mike Weatherley and Nicholas
Boles, have been wading through the figures to see what it means for the people
of this city.
They
say: “Since Labour came to power they have raised taxes 60 times. That is the equivalent of £5,000 a year for every household
in Brighton and Hove. More than
enough to pay for a new kitchen or a two week holiday for a family of four in
Florida every year. So where has
all OUR money gone? Where
are the extra nurses, doctors, teachers and police officers in Brighton and
Hove? Why has Brighton and Sussex University Hospital’s NHS Trust (which
includes the Royal Sussex County Hospital and Brighton General Hospital)
only achieved a one star rating after 7 years of Labour tax and spend ?
All we get from this Labour Government is tax, spend and fail.”
Mike and Nick offered the following promise to the people of Brighton Pavilion and Hove and Portslade:
“A Conservative Government will take no risks with the public finances. We will restrict the overall growth in spending by reducing administration, tackling waste, and exercising firmer control over welfare, transport, defence, and environmental budgets. This will make it possible for us to devote more money to schools and hospitals. These are the priorities of the people of Brighton and Hove and these are the priorities of an incoming Conservative administration.”
