Letter to the Argus 10th July 2004
Dear Editor
As a avid rock fan, I was absolutely delighted
to go to Chuck Berry's 'last European tour' with Jerry Lee
Lewis at the Brighton Centre on July 7. Whilst obviously not
as electric as some of his shows in past years, it was still an
absolutely amazing show played to a very animated audience. With the
Brighton Centre due to be rebuilt, it is paramount that the replacement is
capable of holding such events. If we are to continue to get legends
such as these two to do gigs in this city there must be a venue
that will provide the full range of facilities required.
I was also
impressed by the Brighton Centre's ability to yet again, after nearly
30 years to still pull out all the stops for a legendary concert. I would
like to say a huge thank you to the Brighton Centre Marketing
Manager Wendy Walton for the work she puts in to events such as this.
The Brighton Centre is up there at the top the pyramid of live venues in the
City - of which we now have quite a few such as Concorde 2, Pressure Point
and the Portland Rock Bar (and I look forward to trying out the new Engine
Room venue in Preston Street). It is great to see some many other
venues beginning to cater for live music as well.
I never
thought I would be able to say that I saw Jerry Lee Lewis doing 'Great Balls
of Fire' live - but now I can. Brighton is a great city (despite its parking
problems!).
