Mike Weatherley,
Nicholas Boles and David Logan – “NHS in Brighton and Hove is going from bad
to worse.”
In
the latest annual performance ratings, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals
Trust, which is responsible for the Royal Sussex County, Royal Alexandra and
Sussex Eye hospitals in Brighton, as well as the Princes Royal hospital and
Hurstwood Park neurological unit in Haywards Heath, has been given no stars.
This means it is now classified as a failing trust.
Things have gone from bad to worse.
Only last year the trust was relegated to one star status out of three.
Mike
Weatherley, Nicholas Boles and David Logan, the three Conservative
Parliamentary Candidates for Brighton and Hove are extremely concerned.
Mike said:
“This
is a very worrying development indeed, but in no way reflects on the hard work
and dedication of the hundreds of doctor’s and nurses who care day in day out
for the people of Brighton and Hove. I
hope the new chief executive Peter Coles will quickly sort out the problems, of
the £8 million deficit to allow more money to go directly to front line
services.
“As
I go round talking to people I am heart broken to hear some of the stories. This is real peoples lives we are talking about.
Take the young lady I met in the Preston Park area of Brighton.
She is asthmatic and her consultant has referred her to a nurse
practitioner for specialist advice. That
was eight long months ago and two appointments have been cancelled due to
long-term staff sickness and there is no one to provide cover.
This is not acceptable in the 21st Century.”
Nicholas
has also found people telling him about their experiences.
He said:
“With
all the billions of pounds going into the NHS, people quite rightly expect a
first class service. It is not
surprising that many are turning to private healthcare, when the NHS is
struggling to deliver. Conservatives
are accused of forcing people to buy private health insurance, but what many
don’t realize is that this is what is happening under Labour.
I
want the people of Hive and Portslade to know that I will relentlessly campaign
for a free and fair NHS. With the
patient in control with the right to choose.”
Newly
selected candidate for Brighton Kemptown David Logan said:
“These
statistics came out on the day that I was selected.
Talk about hitting the ground running!
I am eager to roll up my sleeves and get stuck in to campaigning for a
better deal for the people of Brighton Kemp Town. The present MP, Dr Des Turner, should be ashamed of his
Government’s record on the NHS. He
seems to be silent on the issue. I
wonder why? What I am sure many
would like to hear is an apology for the never-ending list of broken promises.
“24 hours to save the NHS” the Prime Minister told the country in
1997. Now 7 years later, a million
people are still on the NHS waiting lists.
I can promise all my prospective constituents that I will be shouting
loud and clear and making sure their voice is heard.
The people of Kemptown need strong representation, with David Logan as
their MP that is what they will get.”
