TORY CANDIDATES FOR HOVE AND BRIGHTON PAVILION TO
LEAD TEAM OF "FAT TORIES"
IN THE SPORTS RELIEF RUN
Nicholas Boles, the Conservative candidate for Hove and Portslade, and Mike
Weatherley, the Conservative candidate for Brighton Pavilion, will lead a
group of local Conservative campaigners in the Sports Relief run in Preston
Park on Saturday 10th July.
They will be wearing t-shirts featuring the logo "Fat Tory".
However, the
"a" will be crossed out and an "i" will be written above it
so that the logo
can also read "Fit Tory".
Nicholas Boles said, "We are taking part in the Sports Relief because we
want to do something practical to help raise money for some of the most
needy people in the world. At the same time, we thought there would be no
harm in poking fun at ourselves and showing that 21st century Tories are not
all men in pinstripe suits with big paunches."
Mike Weatherley, who ran the London Marathon in 1998 and raised £2,500 for
Children's Wish, added, "Sports Relief is a fantastic event which is also
relevant to the debate about obesity. People don't want a nanny state
telling them what to do with their lives. But one thing politicians can do
is set an example. This is what we are trying to do on Saturday."
