Romania

Had the pleasure of going to Romania in July 2007 and was astonished by the legacies of Ceausescu.  We knew he was a totalitarian dictator but I was oblivious to some of the things that he did.  The Parliament building is the fourth largest building in the world, and has the largest mass due to all the marble used. Brazil and Rio

My wife Adriane is from southern Brazil and we visit quite often.  Brazil is wonderfully diverse, and a huge country.

Chernobyl

With just 2,000 people visiting the site each year, protected by three armed check points, this can probably be described as extreme tourism! The meltdown has probably caused the deaths of an estimated 750,000 people and some radiation will take 300,000 years to disappear.  Sobering thoughts.
